WHAT IS POLAND SYNDROME?
Poland syndrome is a disorder in which affected individuals are born with missing or underdeveloped muscles on one side of the body, resulting in abnormalities that can affect the chest, shoulder, arm, and hand. The extent and severity of the abnormalities vary among affected individuals. People with Poland syndrome are typically missing part of one of the major chest muscles, called the pectoralis major. In most affected individuals, the missing part is the large section of the muscle that normally runs from the upper arm to the breastbone (sternum). The abnormal pectoralis major muscle may cause the chest to appear concave. In some cases, additional muscles on the affected side of the torso, including muscles in the chest wall, side, and shoulder, may be missing or underdeveloped. In severe cases of Poland syndrome, the spine can be fused or malformed. This can lead to thoracic deformations and respiratory challenges. Certain bone defects could be present in people with Poland syndrome. This includes an underdeveloped or absent portion of ribs and cartilage where the ribs attach to the sternum.
PSA5k information
Come join us for a family friendly event to raise awareness (& money) for Poland Syndrome. Unfortunately, Poland Syndrome is very rare and does not have a lot of awareness surrounding it. Our goal is to help spread the word so that more medical professionals (& people in general) are aware of this disease. In personal experience with Poland Syndrome doctors are often shocked and have to do their own googling to learn more about the disease. We have only successfully seen one doctor who was aware of Poland Syndrome and that was at Shriners Children's Hospital in Springfield, MA. A portion of all proceeds from this 5k event will benefit Shriners directly. Learn more about all of the amazing things Shriners does for families at shrinerschildrens.org

5k Run/walk Fee - $40 register by 8/15 to guarantee your shirt & swag bag, any registrations after that date will not receive those items!
This payment gets you a PSA5k shirt to wear the day of as well as your entry to the race/walk! Cost is $40 for every runner or walker participating. Children are free. To register for multiple events (such as the kids run and the 5K) you must add 2 separate registrations to your cart!
*Must register by August 15, 2024 to receive shirt & swag*
